10 Editorial Book Reviews The Final Move Beyond Iraq: The Final Solution While the World Sleeps

Review
New York Times best-selling author Evans calls on a slumbering church to stand against evil in;
The Final Move Beyond Iraq, the latest of his works about the volatile Middle East. Evans also challenges America to act decisively in 2007 because, he believes, Iran will soon reach the point of no return in its nuclear program. A political conservative who has served as personal confidant to many of Israel s top leaders, Evans declares that President

George W. Bush was right to invade Iraq and that having a base for democracy in the region is essential. However, the author is more worried about Iran, which he sees as the current financier and exporter of Islamofascism, a form of radical Islam that seeks global domination. Rather than simply getting Iraq to police itself, Evans believes, the priority of the war should be on defeating Iran's nuclear plans. Evans urges the church to wake up and pray like the prophet Daniel did in the 21 days that brought deliverance to his people. Political conservatives will find Evans to be an ally and staunch advocate of the war on terror. Christine D. Johnson --Christian Retailing: May 7, 2007

Product Description   The Final Move Beyond Iraq
By Mike Evans

In The Final Move Beyond Iraq, Mike Evans addresses the greatest threat America has faced since the Civil War: the Islamic revolution, or Islamofascism. While the United States debates the best way to solve the situation in Iraq, the terrorists are claiming victory and planning to take their show to American soil once again.

Drawing from extensive interviews with prime ministers, CIA directors, and other insiders, Evans looks at the history and ideology behind the Islamic revolution to explore its very real threat to U.S. interests why radical Islamic terrorists will only step back when they fear us, why victory in Iraq is important to U.S. security, why the United States and Israel cannot sit idly by and let Iran achieve its desire for nuclear weapons, and why stabilization in Iraq now would sound defeat rather than victory.

The Final Move Beyond Iraq is a wake-up call to mobilize millions to action. America is fighting for its life in the first war of the twenty-first century.

From the Back Cover
Could we lose the war on terror?

America is fighting for its life in the first war of the twenty-first century. The battle is for the soul of America, and ground zero is Iraq.

While the United States debates, the terrorists are claiming victory and planning to take their show to American soil once again. In The Final Move Beyond Iraq, best-selling author Mike Evans gives us a wake up call, demonstrating conclusively that:

·An Islamic revolution is spreading and is on the brink of becoming America's greatest threat since the Civil War. ·Immediate withdrawal from Iraq would be disastrous and will embolden terrorists to attack America at home. ·Iran is playing a major role in the current violence. ·The U.S. must strike Iran within the next twelve months, or the next President may be presiding over a nuclear 9/11.

American soldiers are risking their lives for our freedom. We must see this war through to the end--or our next battle will be much, much worse.

Why such hatred for Christians in THIS country?

 DEBBIE C says:
I am saddened by such 'hatred' toward Christians in many of these posts. Why? Sharing the Christian faith w/ others, is just that...'sharing'. YOU do not have to believe. But, the sarcastic and hateful mockery towards those who DO love Christ is amazing.
The main point of Dr. Evans book, as I see it, is that the radicals of the Muslim faith, of which all Middle East terrorists adhere to, DEMAND that you bow before Muhammed and Allah...or be killed by the sword. There is no mercy, no love, no discussion, no choice, & no free will. They visciously hate non-Muslims. They clearly DO want to destroy the West, all Christians, and the Jewish race. They have SAID so...again & again! To think that you can 'negotiate' with people of this mindset is clearly foolish and dangerous. Anyway, we have tried time & again to no avail.
God has given the human race free will. He clearly explains in the Bible what your choices are. He draws you to Himself with Love. But, if you choose to reject that Love He clearly states that there are consequences. He is a Holy God, and He cannot allow sinful beings into Heaven. What is sin? ONE lie is sin. One lie will keep you out of Heaven & from eternal life w/ a Holy God. That's why Jesus was sent. He asks us to see ourselves as the sinners we are; a people who could not possibly, on our own, measure up to the purity of a Holy God. At this point, if we ask Jesus to cover our sin w/ His Love, & the blood He shed for us, then God sees us through that act of repentance & faith as being cleansed from sin. We then begin a relationship, and we are allowed to approach Him and commune with Him. That is sharing the Christian faith. I have 'shared' this message w/ others for nearly 30 years. Some have received and believed, others have not, & they have rejected God's remedy for sin, as explained in the Bible. I do not try to kill them, I do not hate them, or even dislike them for their choice. Many of these people are my friends and family. Do I give up trying to show them the love of Christ in my life? No, I ask God to continue to grow me into more of a Christ-like person, and I keep praying that those who do not believe WILL believe someday. I cannot understand, by the way, why someone who chooses not to love God on earth, would want to spend eternity in Heaven w/ Him, worshipping Him & enjoying fellowship w/ Him & the millions who DO love Him. Would that place not be HELL for such a person? Yet everyone wants to go to Heaven when they die; they just don't want God telling them how to live their life here on earth. Does that make any sense?
The leader of Iran has sworn aloud for ALL on the world to hear, that Isreal will be destroyed and wiped off the face of the earth. He is talking GENOCIDE for an entire race of people. Do you actually believe he does not MEAN this?! He has been invited to the UN, & he is treated as a respected leader of his country. Yet he speaks clearly, of what his plans are for Isreal, and for all non-Muslims. Death & genocide. Would any other world leader get away with this? Would the Prime Minister of Isreal be able to say the same about Iran w/o out protests? This is the point that Dr. Evans is trying to get across, as I see it. We are in danger. Serious danger from millions of people who want to see us dead. They would repeat 9/11 on a massive scale until we are ALL dead and gone if they could. And they will never stop trying to do so!
I hate war. I cry for the soldiers and the innocent civilians that are being murdered everyday in Iraq, in Isreal, in Lebanon and all over the world, by a people who desire death for ALL non-Muslims. A people who teach their children to hate, and who send their men & women on suicide missions to kill others. THAT IS EVIL! Can we not agree on that? I want us to leave Iraq as soon as it is possible for us to do so, with the safety of innocents and our soldiers in mind. If we just pull out all at once...the evil will rush back in with a vengence.
Quit, please, with the constant battering of Christians as hateful warmongers. We look at the world in a different way, yes...but we are crying out to warn of the evil that wants to destroy us. We cry out in love, asking the world to stand against this evil and to not be taken in by petty partisan political arguments. A house divided WILL fall. We must try to be kinder in our estimations of eachother's motives, and work together.
Angel H says:
I totally agree with you DEBBIE C.

I came to the Christian forum with the hope of some kind of fellowship with other believers but the majority of what I've read is atheists spouting their hatred and contempt for those of us who do believe. They act as though we are stupid and uneducated, not having given our beliefs any critical thought whatsoever. I'm sure we've all had our times of doubt, especially when the whole of our educational system has that as their main goal! As I wondered why the atheists hang out here and attack Christians it occurred to me that it's only natural that, in these last days, spiritual forces of darkness are out in full force, knowing their days are numbered and would love to make us doubt our Lord and His promises. It amazes me that the USA is portrayed by its own citizens as the evil one destroying the whole world. The majority of this country has not only forgotten 9/11 but has failed to educate themselves at all on what the Koran actually says, and the absolute determination of militant Islam to rid the world of ALL non-Muslims.

If I didn't have the hope that God and my Savior has given me I'd be really afraid, but His perfect love casts out all fear. I'm very grateful for the peace that surpasses understanding. GLORY TO GOD!

Angel

 DEBBIE C says:
Thankyou Angel. Very well put. I am quite 'mystified' as to why no one who is in the habit of 'Christian bashing' has responded to these two posts of ours. I thought, from a few of the posts anyway, that they wanted an HONEST discussion about what we believe and why, etc. Guess not. God Bless!

In
 R. Diego says:
OK Debbie, I'll bite. I see you really want a response so I'll give one, even though I'm really not a Christian basher, and you are probably getting tired of hearing only from me.

I have a problem with the one way to heaven thing. There are BILLIONS of people in the world. They believe what ever they were brought up to believe. If you were born in a small village in Indonesia, you would most likely be a very nice Muslim woman just like your mother, her mothers mother.... you would probably even have some understanding of Christianity but really, what are the odds you would end up as anything but Muslim. You may even be a wonderful person who loves her husband and children, takes care of others. I'm sure you would pray five times a day, not drink, smoke etc. Why then would you not only not get into heaven but burn eternally with demons and bad scary things. Thats just mean.

There's also the old problem of "why do bad things happen to good people". That one has been around for a long time. I even took a whole semester on that one. A hundred different writters will have a hundred different takes on that one. No easy sunday school answers to that one.

Anyway, I did want you to get at least one response to your discussion, even if it was a poor response.

It's called a choice. God gives us the right to choose, to believe in Him or not. Why do bad things happen to good people? I don't know. Why do good things happen to bad people? Why did I have cancer? Why was I injured at work? Why did my dad die in a freak accident when I was little? Why do I have constant pain from the screws and pins that are in my foot? Why do I volunteer at my church to make care packages for our troops? Why did an atheist friend of mine call me on the phone, after not hearing from him for over 2 years? How did I convince him not to take his and his wife's life and lead him gently to someone there that I didn't know, and lead him to Christ and change his life? Why did he ask me why I never talked to him about Christ, and I answer him that he wasn't ready at the time? God moves in so many ways that man cannot understand. In our eyes a person who kills/rapes/murders goes to jail and doesn't have a chance at changing, but through God's eyes has every opportunity to turn his/her life around, ask for forgiveness and have a place in Heaven waiting on them. I truthfully cannot explain it. It's faith that keeps me going. Faith in God and He cared so much for me, He sacrificed His Son to pay for all my sin's, and give me the opportunity to be with Him.
The easiest way I can put this is if I live a good life, live my life through the Ten Commandments, lead others to Christ and live with a joy that puts a smile in my heart, and even with my pain and limping makes my heart skip a beat just thinking of the day He returns for me and I find out that death is it, then I can live with that. But if I'm right and after death God welcomes me to His Heavenly Home, where will you be in that situation. I pray you listen to these words and just ask God to share with you what He has planned for you. He works in so many ways and through so many people and events that I hope you find the answers you are looking for. Faith is blind, but He left a Book that explains so much more than I can explain. I wish you well.

 D. Snyder says:
I fully agree with Debbie C's post! This book is a light shining on a dark place. If we do not heed the warnings that are all around us, not only in this book, but more importantly, in the Bible, we will be in for a very rude awakening. This truly is the war of the century, the millenium, and we Christians best be on our knees in prayer for our country, our soldiers, our leaders and the whole civilized world! The enemy is at the gate, and we MUST NOT let him in. No one likes war. No one wants to see even one young man's life lost fighting this enemy. But what else can we do? Do we sit back and let them build up their nuclear weapons? Do we sit idly by in some sort of dream world and think that if we don't bother them they will stop bothering us? It is foolish and even suicide to not go after them first, before they can kill thousands again on our soil. Why is it said of President Bush and others who support this war that they are war-mongers? We didn't attack them, did we? We went over their to take out a murderous dictator and liberate a country that was enslaved to evil. Because we are there doing that, the Islamofacists came after us to kill us and drive us out. THEY WANT THAT COUNTRY AND IT'S PEOPLE AND THEY WANT TO RULE AND REIGN AND SPREAD THEIR DEMENTED AND PERVERTED IDEOLOGY THROUGHOUT THE MIDDLE EAST AND EVENTUALLY, THE WORLD! We want to live in peace, but they don't want peace. They want war. They are the war-mongers. Jesus said that He will come back and set things right. That day is coming! The only hope for them now is to repent and turn their hearts to the one and true God. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World. Dear Jesus, have mercy on them and draw them to You! Amen.

 Book Fan says:
Nobody, not even some Christians, like looking at the hard truth's. We've been silent and non-threatening to those who raise their fists against us all the time. I for one have had enough, and as a Christian I strongly believe God's plan is, in His time, being unveiled every single day. If your ignorant enough to believe Satan doesn't have his hand in organizations like the ACLU, United Nations, the Muslim world, our society as a whole, and those who look at our freedoms as a right, and not a privilege, should just keep there heads buried in the sand, pray to allah, start a celebrity blog or let 12 million in our country illegally (land of the free, more like freeloaders).
Mike, keep up the good work. No one said sharing the truth would be easy.
Sincerely,
Ralph Mcknight

Great post Angel H & Debbi C. I just got Mikes book and am only on page 66 as I am trying to get all I can. He is so right on and I love the way he compares Ronald Reagan to President George W Bush.
I am hopeing and praying this whole affair will turn around for our President and God will get the Glory.
We(True Christians), need to ferverently pray and interceed for our country to once again be united.

 Human says:
I thank God for Christians like you standing up for Truth. Keep up the great work. By the way we love even those who bash us.....but we will be shown as right when Jesus returns.

 peacemaker says:
Let me speak as a non american evangelical Christian [from Asia]with a background in science and electronics and who also agrees that evolution is nothing more than a theory accepted as a fact by the scientific establishment. However, I wish to let the American humanist know that for some strange reason it is only American Evangelicals with a few exceptions who support the invasion of Iraq and its disastrous consequences. Most of us here with a few exceptions are convinced that Bush's war in Iraq is a total disaster and has opened Pandora's box and destabilised the whole of the Middle East. Too many evangelicals in the USA equate patriotism with faith in Christ and support Bush blindly just because he's a born again christians and have equated the neo conservative political agenda with the gospel and morality. American christians seem to have forgotten that Jesus said that "those who live by the sword will die by the SWord' and that "My kingdom is not of this world" The only link I can see with this kind of politcal reasoning is the Gun culture in america harking back to the wild wild west and somehow or other american christians seem to be so constrained/influenced by the past gun culture that they seem to be imbued with the Old testament view of war forgetting that Jesus brought a new meaning to certian old testament practices such as stoning for adultery etc.
In summary, most of us here fear that the belligerent attitude of American evangelicals post 9/11 pertaining to Iraq etc unfortunately gives the impression to non christians that so called Fundamentalist" christians are as "Jihadistic" as the muslim jihadists altho of course American christian "Jihadists" do not blow up innocent people, behead opponents, create mayhem etc unlike the original JIhadists based on the original interpretation of the Quran.
I must also stress that I'm not a pacifist and feel that the hunt for Bin Laden in afganistan could be justified as self Defense.
'Render to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's" In other words christians should not be public mouth pieces of the American Military Defense establishment altho as private citizens they are entitled to their private opinions and let the Defense establishment decide what it needs to do. So to the American Humanist secularist my merssage is please do not think that the pro war 'jihadist] attitude of your fellow american evangelical["fundamentalists"] is a natural consequence of being a so called fundamentalist evangelical christian but it is a distinctly American phenomenon which is quite at variance with the views of so called Evangelical 'fundamentalist" christians in the rest of the world[except as I said earlier for a few who have been influenced by the views of American preachers of the' Israel is always right," mentality. The only agreement I have with Evans is that Islamic terrorism is a real threat to the world and that christians should be praying ermestly.

It's too bad you don't accept the "one way only" to heaven. Fact is, your aceptance or non acceptance is irrelevant. Doesn't change the facts. Jesus says.."no one goes to the Father except thru me..." That is pretty clear. God also says that He will have mercy upon whom He will have mercy upon. God in His omniscience KNOWS who will and will not accept HIM in the final hour...it can be that man or woman in Tibet, or NYC, but no one will be condemned to hell w/out having first been given the opportunity to make his freewill choice. That goes for you and for me.
Everything you mentioned in your post is like a broken record......we who have embraced the TRUTH of God Jehovah, can see the blind excuses in all your statements. If you want to let go of your humanistic secular ideas....ideas that satan most certainly wants you to hang onto, then get down on your knees and open your heart and ask God to show you the Truth...HIS Truth...there is only ONE Truth. God will know if you are receptive to the Truth......He knows your heart. This is something you and only you can do....your choice. Otherwise you'll go down screaming all these secular humanistic bellering statemnts all the way to hell. Sure enough. I didn't write the rules but I sure got the picture and made my choice,,,,the right one!!!!! I pray that you will too.

 I. Levy says:
I don't hate Christians, but they are really just Islamists with a different symbol. It's so silly, Christians wanting to kill Muslims and vice versa because they don't agree on how to worship, and they both want to force everyone else to live like them. Now that the Supreme Court of the United States is under the control of the Christians, this country is slowly turning into Iran. So it's like two Iran's fighting each other, while those of us who have moderate views (most people) are not decisive enough to lock up the fanatics. Or maybe we are -- the fate of the world depends on it.

it seems everyone on this board has a moral certitude and see everything in black and white
most American Christians are almost as scary as the Muslim fundamentalists and to me one in the same
and at the same time the liberals in America are very naive and don't realize that allot of the world has no regard for human life
the problem with the Armageddon is that everyone seems to want to make it happen
yea Iran should not or never get nukes duh and we have to do everything to prevent it but it would be much better to sit back and let them fall by their own weight give them cable TV. and video games and they will realize that our culture is much more fun than theirs and mix it in and change their ways slowly
i have to say though that the worst twisted Christian would never saw someone's head off and i definitely fear those types but we cant become that way either remember 100's of thousand of innocent people have now died in Iraq as a direct result of our intervention
just be careful of what you think either way no one person has the answers especially YOU

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 16, 2007 2:26 AM PDT
It seems that the Islamists not only oppress their own people but hate entire nations - particularly Israel and the USA. As a result many people (not just Christians) want to see them removed from power in Iran, Gaza etc. Whether to intervene or not is a difficult question. There have been times when the Americans and British have harmed their own cause by very poor treatment of captured Muslims etc. Christians have a particular interest in the dangers of Islamism because they believe that the basis of Islam is false. I would hope that very few (if any) Christians would want to make war against the populations of countries like Iran. As in many situations in life, we need to be careful of our motives - do we genuinely care for oppressed and endangered people, or are we acting out of hatred or revenge?

Do Muslims Hate non-Muslims?

Question

I am an American Christian and willing to accept Islam but I have one question in my mind. Please answer that on the website only I am not willing to tell you my identity due to security reason. 1) Why do you follow Mohammed and not Jesus if the Qur’an says he was the Messiah? I asked another Muslim guy about this and he said that Jesus is not the Messiah? Can you please help me with that? 2) If Jesus is alive then why Muslims do not follow HIM. 3) Why Muslims hate Non-Muslims? Please answer my questions ASAP. Thanks

Red Highlights are Brian's for attentions emphasis for points to ponder.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear brother, thanks for your question and we really appreciate the great confidence you repose in us.
We implore Allah, the Almighty to make our efforts come up to your expectations.

As regards your question on Muslims' stand on Jesus, peace be upon him, it's clear that Muslims are commanded not to discriminate between one Prophet and another. We believe in all Prophets and Messengers sent by Allah to guide people and lead them to the Right Path. The Qur'an says:

"Say (O Muslims):
We believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto Us and that which was revealed unto Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which Moses and Jesus received, and that which the Prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered." (Al-Baqarah: 136)

So the compassionate human trend included in the biography of Jesus is held in high esteem by both Muslims and their creed. It suffices here to say that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him,
never addressed Jesus, Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, save by saying, “My brother Jesus.”

As for the second point, it's to be stressed that Muslims never hate non-Muslims j
ust for the sake that they happen to be non-Muslims. On the contrary, we are allowed to have non-Muslims as friends as long as they don't show enmity towards Islam and Muslims. Islam teaches us that we should be friendly to all people and we should deal even with enemies with justice and fairness.

Dealing with these points in details, Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal Nadvi, Imam of Calgary Mosque, Alberta, Canada, and Former Professor at King Saud University, Riyad, Saudi Arabia, states:

“Let me answer your questions in point form:
1. With regard to your first question about the Muslims’ belief in Jesus, I can simple say that this question does not constitute any problem to any Muslim. As we know and believe,
Jesus, peace be upon him, was the Prophet sent to the Children of Israel. As any Prophet sent to a specific nation, his mission was limited in scope and nature to the people he was sent to. Jesus, peace be upon him, himself prophesied and gave glad tidings about the coming of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Moreover, we as Muslims believe that Jesus, peace be upon him, did not die and that he will come back for a second time. In his next coming he will be following Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.

So in this sense Muslims are really following Jesus, peace be upon him, and are showing great respect to him as one of the chief and great Prophets of Allah (God). However, we believe that Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is the final Messenger of Allah the Almighty and there will no be prophet after him. Allah, the Almighty, has sent Prophet Muhammad as a mercy for all mankind and his message is for all people until the Day of Judgment.

2. As for your second question, I think that what you said about Muslims’ hatred of non-Muslims is nothing but a great misunderstanding of the spirit of Islam and who Muslims are. As a basic principle of Islam, we, Muslims, do
not hate anyone on account of their cultural, religious, or ethnic backgrounds. Islam teaches us to interact with all people and wish good for the whole mankind.

However, Muslims hate Kufr, or disbelief in Allah, the Almighty. Since we love all people, we hate their disobedience of Allah, the Most High. So, even when people deny the existence of Allah we do not hate them personally; however, we hate their disbelief and disobedience of Allah, Exalted be He. This case is very similar to that of a doctor and a patient. The doctor does not hate the patient or the sick person himself or herself, rather he or she hates the disease and tries every possible means to cure the disease and help the patient to recover. We Muslims hate disbelief and disobedience of Allah and we are striving and sparing no effort to do away with this disease and cure people’s sickness and help them become obedient servants of Allah (God).

I hope this does answer your questions!”

12    Kafir

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is about an Islamic term. For other uses of the word, see Kaffir (disambiguation).

Kafir (Arabic: كافر kāfir; plural كفّار kuffār) is an Arabic word literally meaning "ingrate". In the Islamic doctrinal sense the term refer to a person who does not recognize God or Muhammad and hides, denies, or covers the truth. In cultural terms, it is a derogatory term[1] used to describe an unbeliever, non-Muslims, a Muslim of a differing sect, or an apostate from Islam. It is usually translated into English as "infidel" or "unbeliever."

The islamic law (sharia) distinguishes three types of kafirs:

  1. kafir dhimmi
  2. kafir harbi
  3. kafir musta'min

Debate exists between some Muslim scholars as to whether the term applies to Jews and Christians, and later Zoroastrians, as these can also be regarded as Ahl-ul Kittab, People of the Book or Dhimmi ("protected people"). "Kafir" has been used historically to identify Hindus, Buddhists, and followers of non-denominational religions or local, pagan traditions. Some distinguish between Kafir and non-Muslims, as Kafir is used by the Qur'an for people who were guilty of rejection or non-acceptance of what it says is the truth, even after it has become fully apparent to them, while non-Muslim is primarily a term implying a person who does not ascribe to the Islamic faith.[2]

 Etymology

The word kāfir is the active participle of the root K-F-R "to cover". As a pre-Islamic term it described farmers burying seeds in the ground, covering them with soil while planting. Thus, the word kāfir implies the meaning "a person who hides or covers". In Islamic parlance, a kāfir is a word used to describe a person who rejects Islamic faith, i.e. "hides or covers [viz., the truth]".[3]

Qur'anic references

The word kāfir (and related words, such as the abstract noun kufr "disbelief") is mentioned in the Qur’an in five different senses:

  1. Kufr al-tawheed: to reject the belief in the Oneness of God. The Qur’an says:
    • As to those who reject faith (kafaru), it is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe (2:6; Yusuf Ali)
  2. Kufr al-ni`mah: to lack gratefulness to God or to people. The Qur’an says:
    • Therefore remember Me, I will remember you, and be thankful to Me, and do not be ungrateful to Me. (la takfurun)(2:152; Shakir)
    • (Pharaoh) said (to Moses): … And you did (that) deed of yours which you did, and you are one of the ungrateful (kafireen)(26:18-19; Shakir)
  3. Kufr at-tabarri: to disown/clear oneself from. The Qur’an says:
    • Indeed, there is for you a good example in Ibrahim and those with him when they said to their people: “Surely we are clear of you (kafarna bekom).” (60:4; Shakir)
  4. Kufr al-juhud: to deny. The Qur’an says:
    • When there comes to them that which they [should] have recognized, they refuse to believe in (kafaru) it.(2:89; Yusuf Ali)
  5. Kufr at-taghtiyah to hide/bury something, like planting a seed in the ground. The Qur’an says:
    • The likeness of vegetation after rain, whereof the growth is pleasing to the husbandman (kuffar.) (57:20; Pickthall)

The word kufr can also be applied to a Muslim when he is doing something wrong, but not necessarily something that would place him or her outside the state of belief in Islam. For example, a Muslim who is able to perform the Hajj but does not go, without denying the need to go, would be committing an act of kufr in a sense of ungratefulness to God.

  • Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), full of blessing, and a guidance for Al-'Alamîn (the mankind and jinns). In it are manifest signs (for example), the Maqâm (place) of Abraham (Arabic:Ibrâhim) ; whosoever enters it, he attains security. And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to God (Arabic:Allah), those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves  (wa man kafara) [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of God], then God stands not in need of any of the 'Alamîn (mankind and jinns)(3:96-97).

In the Qur'an the phrase "O disbelievers" (yā kuffār, Ya ayuhalathina kafaru, or Ya ayuhal-kafirun) is found only in these two places:

  1. In Hellfire, we seek refuge in God from it. The Qur’an says what means:
    • "[Then it will be said]: 'O ye who disbelieve (Ya ayuhalathina kafaru)! Make no excuses for yourselves this day.'" (66:7)
  2. In Surat Al-Kafirun (109):
    • "Say [O Muhammad]: 'O ye that reject faith (al-Kafirun)! I worship not that which ye worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship.'"

In the rest of the Qur'an, the Qur'anic style follows two principles:

  1. To label certain sayings or actions to be sayings or actions of kufr (disbelief or rejection of faith), without labeling any specific group of people with that name and calling them with it. For example, the Qur’an says what means:
    • Certainly they disbelieve who say: Surely God is the third [person] of the three. And there is no god but One God, and if they desist not from what they say, a painful chastisement shall befall those among them who disbelieve [reject]. Will they not then turn to God and ask His forgiveness? And God is Forgiving, Merciful. The Messiah, son of Mary is but a messenger; messengers before him have indeed passed away; and his mother was a truthful woman.(5:73-75)
  2. To distinguish clearly between idol-worshippers, on one hand, and believers in God and a Script that went through a phase of corruption, on the other hand. God called the later group only by the name "People of the Book." For example, the Qur'an says what means:
    • Quite a number of the People of the Book wish they could turn you [people] back to infidelity after ye have believed, from selfish envy, after the truth hath become manifest unto them. But, forgive and overlook, till Allah accomplish His purpose; for God Hath power over all things.(2:109)
    • It is He Who got out the Unbelievers among the People of the Book from their homes at the first gathering [of the forces]. Little did ye think that they would get out: And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from God! But the [wrath of] God came to them from quarters from which they little expected [it], and cast terror into their hearts, so that they destroyed their dwellings by their own hands and the hands of the Believers, take warning, then, O ye with eyes [to see](59:2)

In today's world, scholars recommend[citation needed] that Muslims should use the same term "People of the Book" with Christians and Jews, or call them Christians and Jews, if they wish to be called so, or simply call them "non-Muslims".

According to scholars

Some scholars say People of the Book — that is to say Christians, Jews (including Samaritans) and "Sabians" — are kafir (infidels) because even if they are considered recipients of divine revelation from God, the Qur'an literally stamps them with the term Al-Ladheena Kafaru (those who cover)/ Walaqad Kaffara (Surely they have become kafirs).

However, this is generally the more extreme view, and while Muslims do view the People of the Book as having altered their religions, most reserve the term "kafir" for polytheists, atheists, and those who consciously live in spite of God. Hence, the People of the Book, as worshippers of God are not "kufar" in the sense it is most often used. Furthermore, most Muslims would argue that God would not allow marriage between Muslim men and Christian/Jewish women if they were on the same level as those previously mentioned.

Ibn Taymiyah says:

Not believing in God and His Messenger, whether that is accompanied by denial or it is not accompanied by denial but rather doubt, or turning away from faith out of jealousy or arrogance, or because one is following whims and desires that prevent one from following the message. So kufr is the attribute of everyone who rejects something that God has commanded us to believe in, after news of that has reached him, whether he rejects it in his heart without uttering it, or he speaks those words of rejection without believing it in his heart, or he does both; or he does an action which is described in the texts as putting one beyond the pale of faith.

Ibn Hazam said in his book al-Fasl:

Rejecting something for which there is sound proof that there can be no faith without believing in it is kufr, and uttering words for which there is proof that uttering them is kufr. Doing any action for which there is proof that it is kufr is also kufr.

 Acts that invalidate Islam

"Verily, God forgives not (the sin of) setting up partners in worship with Him, but He forgives whom He pleases other sins than that" (al-Nisa 116).

"Say: Was it God, or His signs or His Messenger that you were mocking? Make no excuse, you have disbelieved after you had believed." (al-Tauba 65-66).

"And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the signs of his Lord, then he turns aside there from? Verily, We shall exact retribution from the sinners"

The Kafiroon are not to be confused with the munafiq. The munafiq are Muslim hypocrites.

Muslim relations with the Kafir

For dealing with non-Muslims, Jasser Auda, a director of the al-Maqasid Research Centre in the Philosophy of the Islamic Law in London, England, says that the general rule is mentioned in the verse that says what means:

God welcomes you to respect those who have not made war against you on account of [your] religion, and have not driven you forth from your homes, that you show them kindness (birr) and deal with them justly; surely God loves the doers of justice. God only forbids you respecting those who made war upon you on account of [your] religion, and drove you forth from your homes and backed up [others] in your expulsion, that you make friends with them, and whoever makes friends with them, these are the unjust. (60:8-9)

Birr in this context is likened to birr al-walidain, the kindness that a Muslim should show to his or her parents.[4]

Some Muslims believe that making friends with the Kafir is prohibited in Islam. Others consider the directive in Qur'an only for those Christians and Jews who were direct addressees of Qur'an or in war when there is a danger of transmission of secrets.[5] As in Qur'an:

O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors (over the Muslims): They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily God guideth not a people unjust. 5:51

Shi'a jurists have traditionally deemed the person who does not believe in Allah ( God ) and His Oneness to be ritually impure (najis) so that physical contact with them or things they touched would require Shi'as to wash themselves before doing regular prayers. As regards the people of the Book (i.e. the Jews and the Christians) who do not accept the Prophethood of Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah, they are commonly considered Pak ( pure ).[6][7][8]

Use outside Islam

By the 15th century the word kafir/kuffar was used by Muslims in Africa to refer to the non-Muslim African natives. Many of those kuffar, were enslaved and sold by their Muslims captors to European and Asian merchants, mainly from Portugal, who by that time had established trading outposts along the coast of West Africa. These European slave traders adopted that Arabic word to refer to their captives, and eventually changed it into many forms — cafre (in Portuguese,Spanish and Greek), caffar, kaffer, kaffir, kafir, etc. (in English, Dutch, and Afrikaans); see kaffir (historical usage in southern Africa). Those words were then used to name many things related to Africa, such as the Kaffir Wars, Kaffraria, kaffir lime, kaffir corn, and so on; see kaffir (disambiguation). It is now illegal to use the term "kaffir" in South Africa.

Some of those African slaves were taken by the Portuguese to work in their colonies in Asia. In some cities of Sri Lanka, in particular, the descendants of those slaves still constitute a distinctive ethnic group, who call themselves Kaffir.

In South Africa the word kaffir eventually became a racial slur, applied pejoratively or offensively by some whites to African blacks or to dark-skinned persons in general. In Jamaica it is applied by some Jamaicans of Indian ancestry to Jamaicans of African ancestry. See kaffir (ethnic slur).

Types of Kufr (Disbelief)

Al-Firdous, Ltd. UK

The Qu'ran uses the word Kufr to denote people who cover up or hide realities. The Qu'ran uses this word to identify those who denied Allah's favors by not accepting His Dominion and Authority. Kufr thus is an antonym for Iman or disbelief in Allah and a Kafir is a non-believer. This type of Kufr is called AL-KUFRUL AKBAR or major kufr. There are many types of Al-Kufrul Akbar

1. Kufrul-'Inaad:

Disbelief out of stubborness. This applies to someone who knows the truth and admits to knowing the truth and admits to knowing it with his tongue, but refuses to accept it and refrains from making a declaration. Allah(swt) says: Throw into Hell every stubborn disbeliever [Surah Qaaf (50), Ayah 24]

2. Kufrul-Inkaar:

Disbelief out of denial. This applies to someone who denies with both heart and tongue.

Allah(swt) says: They recognize the favors of Allah, yet they deny them. Most of them are disbelievers. [Surah Nahl(16), Ayah 83]

3. Kufrul-Kibr:

Disbelief out of arrogance and pride. The disbelief by the devils (Iblis) is an example of this type of Kufr.

4. Kufrul-Juhood:

Disbebelief out of rejection. This applies to someone who aknowledges the truth in his heart, but rejects it with his tongue. This types of kufr is applicable to those who calls themselves Muslims but who reject any necessary and accepted norms of Islam such as Salaat and Zakat.

Allah (swt) says: They denied them (OUR SIGNS) even though their hearts believed in them , out of spite and arrogance. [Surah Naml(27), Ayah 14]

5. Kufrul-Nifaaq:

Disbelief out of hypocrisy. This applies to someone who pretends to be a believer but conceals his disbelief. Such a person is called a MUNAFIQ or hypocrite.

Allah( swt) says: Verily the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of Hell. You will find no one to help them. [Surah An Nisaa (4), Ayah 145]

6. Kufrul-Istihaal:

Disbelief out of trying to make HARAM into HALAL. This applies to someone who accepts as lawful (Halal) that which Allah has made unlawful(Haram) like alcohol or adultery.Only Allah(swt) has the prerogative to make things Halal and Haram and those who seek to interfere with His right are like rivals to Him and therefore fall outside the boundries of faith.

7. Kufrul-Kurh:

Disbelief out of detesting any of Allah's(swt) commands. Allah(swt) says: Perdition (destruction) has been consigned to those who disbelieve and He will render their actions void. This is because they are averse to that which Allah has revealed so He has made their actions fruitless. [Surah Muhammed (47), Ayah 8-9]

8. Kufrul-Istihzaha:

Disbelief due to mockery and derision.

Allah (swt) says: Say: Was it at Allah, His signs and His apostles that you were mocking? Make no excuses. You have disbelieved after you have believed. [Surah Taubah (9), ayah 65-66]

9. Kufrul-I'raadh:

Disbelief due to avoidance. This applies to those who turn away and avoid the truth.

Allah(swt) says: And who is more unjust than he who is reminded of his Lord's signs but then turns away from them. Then he forgets what he has sent forward (for the Day of Judgement) [Surah Kahf(18), Ayah 57]

10. Kufrul-Istibdaal:

Disbelief because of trying to substitute Allah's Laws. This could take the form of: (a) Rejection of Allah's law(Shariah) without denying it (b) Denial of Allah's law and therefore rejecting it, or (c) Substituting Allah's laws with man-made laws.

Allah (swt) says: Or have they partners with Allah who have instituted for them a religion which Allah has not allowed. [Surah Shuraa(42), Ayah 8]

Allah(swt) says: Say not concerning that which your tongues put forth falsely (that) is lawful and this is forbidden so as to invent a lie against Allah. Verily, those who invent a lie against Allah will never prosper. [Surah Nahl (16), Ayah 116]

The Meaning of Kaffir and Kufr

As much as it is important to understand the meaning of 'Islam and Muslim' likewise it is important to understand the opposite i.e Kufr and Kaffir. There is a lot of confusion about these words and their meanings, so therefore the knowledge of their meanings in Arabic becomes even more essential.

Every generation of Muslims faces some sort of trials to test our faith and weed out those who are sincere to Allah and those who are not. In our time, there is a lot of confusion about who is a Muslim (a believer in the Oneness of Allah) and who is a kaffir. This confusion has reached the extent that some people do not like to call anyone a kaffir including those whom Allah has clearly indicated in the Qur'aan. On the other hand, there are some who arbitrarily call people Kaffir without knowing the essential meaning of the word.

At the same time, the secularists have taken over the education of the Muslims in Muslim lands and are currently in the process of squeezing out any remaining elements of Islam; its meaning and its responsibilities, from the curricula that our children face. It is therefore, time that we understand the true meaning of the word.

We also find Muslims being labeled as terrorists, extremists or fundamentalists while others attempt to water down the boundaries of Islam into something that resembles
pseudo-Christianity, where everyone is forgiven and everyone goes to heaven, regardless of their disobedience and ingratitude to Allah and their perception of who Allah is. Islam, however stands between these two extremes.

First of all, Allah, the Almighty uses the terms Kufr and Kaffir in the Qur'aan, so we cannot say that these words do not exist or that they have no meaning. The Qur'aan is referred to by Allah as Al Furqan, meaning the Criterion, and it is upon this criterion that we must base our understanding of all things.

Allah has stated plainly in the Qur'aan that the righteous; the Muslims who believe sincerely and act according to the laws of Allah, will inherit Paradise. In Sura An Nur, Allah says,
"Allah has promised those among you who believes, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah.)
(Sura 24:55)
Can this honor possibly be for anyone who is in a state of kufr?

In Sura Al A'raf Allah says,
"And the dwellers of the Fire will call to the dwellers of Paradise: "Pour on us some water or anything that Allah has provided you with." They will say: "Both (water and provision) Allah has forbidden to the disbelievers." (Sura 7:50)
From this we see clearly that disbelief is a state; a state wherein resides the consequences of one's actions.
The disbeliever will not be allowed the comfort and provision of Allah, that he used to enjoy in this life. Who are these disbelievers and what are some of their characteristics?
Allah says in the Qu'raan,
"Who took their religion as an amusement and play, and the life of the world deceived them." So this Day We shall forget them as they forgot their meeting of this Day, and as they used to reject Our signs." (Sura 7:51)

The phrase 'who took their religion as an amusement and play' is important. We want to look at the words 'amusement and play' and discover their meanings in Arabic. The Arabic words are 'lahu wal la'b.' The meaning includes anything that does not include remembrance of Allah; anything which distracts us from thinking about Allah and mentioning His name; where the remembrance of Allah is the last thing in one's mind. It means to busy yourself in something in place of something else. This is the state of taking Islam as an amusement and play. How many ways can we become distracted from Islam and the remembrance of Allah? This is a state of existence; a state of putting oneself far from Allah. Such people, are those who allow themselves to be diverted, for whatever reason, from the remembrance of Allah and taking the religion of Islam seriously as it should be taken.

Allah says, "And when you (Muhammad pbuh) see those who engage in a false conversation about Our Verses (of the Qur'aan) by mocking at them, stay away from them till they turn to another topic. And if Satan causes you to forget, then after the remembrance sit not you in the company of those people who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers.) (Sura 6:68)
Such people will be of those who Allah admits to the fire. May Allah, the Almighty protect us from this!

The root word of Kufr is 'kafara' which means to cover something or not to disclose something. So it refers to people who know the truth but cover it and fail to disclose it; the one who covers the truth after it has been made manifest to him; who covers the favors of Allah and opposes it.
Allah says in Sura Al An'am,
"They (the Jews, Quraish pagans, idolaters etc) did not estimate Allah with an estimation due to Him when they said: "Nothing did Allah send down to any human being (by inspiration)." Say (O Muhammad pbuh): "Who then sent down the Book which Moses brought, a light and a guidance to mankind which you (the Jews) have made into (separate) paper sheets, disclosing (some of it) and concealing (much). And you (believers in Allah and His Messenger pbuh) were taught (through the Qur'aan) that which neither you nor your fathers knew." Say: "Allah (sent it down)." Then leave them to play in their vain discussions." (Sura 6:91)

This is essentially different from those people who are ignorant (Jahil) i.e. they do not know about Islam or have not been exposed to Islam. Allah guides whom He wills and He is Just and Merciful.

It is important to note that the word 'la'b' implies going off to other than the straight path; to busy oneself with something other than what one was told to busy oneself with i.e. to obey Allah.

As we stand amidst the trials and tribulations of today's world, it is essential to remember that
Allah is the Sole Maintainer and Protector of all things. He is Mighty and Honors and Dishonors whom He chooses. Those who take His religion as a plaything, a sport, as being of secondary importance in life - and do this while knowing Islam and our duties to Allah, are guilty of kufr and hence have removed themselves from His Almighty Care. Allah says, "They are those who deny the Ayat (signs, proofs, evidences, revelations etc) of their Lord and the meeting with Him (in the Hereafter). So their works are in vain, and on the Day of Resurrection, We shall not give them any weight." (Sura 18:105)

The final success is for those who are humble and sincere before Allah and who establish piety on earth as Allah prescribed. May Allah make us of those with whom He is pleased.

Saudi Textbooks Still Teach Hate, Group Says

Statements on the Issue

Morning Edition, May 24, 2006 · In the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, the United States pressured Saudi Arabia to reform its educational curriculum by :
eliminating educational material that demonizes Christians and Jews or that urges holy war on "the unbelievers.
" Senior Saudi officials have assured the United States that the reform has been completed, but a new report by the human-rights group Freedom House suggests otherwise.

Wahhabism, a strict and rigid interpretation of Islam, permeates life in Saudi Arabia and has long dominated the public school curriculum. When it was learned that most of the Sept. 11 hijackers were Saudis, the United States demanded changes in the Saudi school system in the belief that the strict Islamist curriculum encouraged a culture of violence.

Saudi officials have been trying to convince Washington that the educational curriculum has been reformed. On a recent speaking tour of American cities, the Saudi ambassador to the United States, Prince Turki al-Faisal, assured audiences that the Kingdom has "eliminated what might be perceived as intolerance" from its old textbooks.

Last week, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal proclaimed in Washington that the reforms go far beyond moderating the language used in textbooks.

"They go into teachers' training, directions for the messages that are given to children in the formative years, and this is done for our own security and our own educational standard," he said.

The Center for Religious Freedom at Freedom House has studied some of the textbooks currently in use in Saudi public schools, from grades one through 12. Nina Shea, the center's director, says :
the texts do not comport with what Saudi officials have been saying.

The textbooks "reflect an ideology of hatred against the other, against Christians, Jews other Muslims, for instance, Shiites and the majority Sunni Muslims and all others who do not subscribe to the Wahhabi doctrine," Shea says.

The center's report cites numerous examples. It quotes a fourth-grade text as telling students to:

"love for the sake of God and to hate for the sake of God." The report says that textbooks instruct students that Christians and Jews are "apes and pigs" and warns students not to "greet," "befriend" or "respect" non-believers.

Saudi officials have told Washington that their reformed curriculum encourages tolerance and understanding of other religions and cultures.

Shea says any changes in that direction are miniscule.

"They have made some changes," she says. "Sometimes though, the changes aren't all they're cracked up to be. For example, they will say, 'You have to hate the unbeliever but to treat them justly.' That's supposed to be an improvement."

In its defense, the Saudi embassy in Washington issued a statement saying that curriculum reform is a massive undertaking and that the process in Saudi Arabia is ongoing. Shea is skeptical; she notes that the oil-rich Saudis began the reform process five years ago.

"They certainly have the money to change all the textbooks for next semester," she says. "Or, last semester for that matter."

U.S. State Department spokesman Tom Casey told reporters on Monday that he had not seen the Freedom House report. But he indicated that Washington still is not satisfied with what is being taught in Saudi schools.

"We appreciate the fact that there are efforts under way to work on this but certainly this is an ongoing concern and something we will be discussing."

For her part, Shea warns that :
if Saudi Arabia does not speed up its reforms, Saudi schools could produce another generation of students grounded in the culture of jihad.
