Memorial Drive Lutheran church on Sunday May 27, 2007 honored Pastor Jack Lien on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of his Ordination.  They also recognized Jack and Virginias 60th Wedding Anniversary.  Pastor Lien was ordained June 8, 1947 and married the very next day. The celebration took place on  Pentecost Sunday.  It began with a 10:15 musical prelude followed by a 10:30 worship service. Then everyone gathered in Fellowship Hall at noon for a catered barbecue luncheon. At 1:30 the congregation returned to the Nave for a program to honor Pastor LIen.

Memorial Drive Lutheran Church was formed as a mission church in June 1960 by the then American Lutheran Church  ( ALC) and the Founding Pastor was Jack Lien. He provided the leadership and the great energy required to grow that mission into a church. He served as Senior Pastor until 1980 when he left to start a second mission. Later in his career, he would start a third mission church.  His strong  leadership and wisdom was largely responsible for the growth of the MDLC Church family . An endowment to support assistance for college costs of the Memorial Drive Lutheran High School graduates is being created at Jacks desire. for the local level.  The church is humbled to have an opportunity to express its gratitude to a man who has given so much to this congregation. This is a great long overdue tribute to a most gifted leader.

Jack Lien 60th Anniversary

Memorial Drive Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas Honors Founding Pastor Jack Lien On His 60th Anniversary of his Ordination and the 60th Wedding Anniversary of Jack and Virginia Lien.

 The Lords Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father by whom all things were made; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead, whose kingdom shall have no end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And we believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
